December is magical for everyone. Some people look forward to the family holidays all year. Some embrace the season’s hot chocolates and mulled wines whether or not the weather calls for them. Students have been waiting for their winter break since the first day of classes and it never feels like it comes soon enough! All of these things are great- truly! – but for me there is one event in December I look forward to more than anything else – the official announcement of the Pantone Color of the Year!
I know – this seems crazy. I love my time with my family gathered around the fireplace. I love fuzzy socks and scarves and pumpkin spice lattes with friends – but the Pantone Color of the Year rules my life, and whether or not you realize it, it rules yours too.
“Living Coral” is going to be everywhere this year. Pantone’s announcement in early December marks the official start of every design fad for the next year – fashion, interior design, graphic design, cosmetics, and of course, event design. 2019 is going to be all about Coral and we are guaranteed to be planning a ton of these bright, youthful, energetic weddings.

This is the first color since 2014’s “radiant orchid” that you can really get palette creative with. Coral has always been a popular spring shade but I’m excited to see how we can tie it in throughout the rest of the year – because, believe me, you’ll be seeing “living coral” in your handbags, your shoes, your couch pillows, your hand towels, your toothbrush, and just about everywhere else. You’re even bound to see it on your favorite celebrities, since we’ve already been graced by stunning coral outfits from Gigi Hadid and Jennifer Lopez since the announcement.
So what is this going to look like for Texas weddings?

The most interesting thing about the coral trend this year is definitely how versatile the shade is. The coral palette can range from pink to orange to copper, and I am always obsessed with copper! I write this as I sip from my copper A&M coffee mug, I promise. Hammered copper chafers are going to be on all of my buffet lines this year, and my place settings will all be framed with copper flatware.
For those of you really obsessed with this year’s daring pick, you can put it to good use in your engagement jewelry by creating a custom piece using an extremely rare (and extremely pricey!) red gem called a “padparadscha sapphire.” If you’re able to get your hands on one of those, you may as well throw out the “something blue” tradition altogether and go for “something coral” instead!
Forget all of your 2018 troubles – they’re now a thing of the past. We’re starting fresh and clean with a vibrant, exciting new color scheme to keep us happy and energized all year long. This year we will be living big, living bold, and Living Coral!
